Midwinter Graces is the eleventh studio album by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. It will be released on November 10, 2009 (November 16, 2009 in the UK), through Universal Republic Records, and is the first seasonal album by Amos.The album, like previous releases from Tori will be available in a single form CD or a Deluxe edition which will include 2 bonus tracks, a 20-page photo book, and a DVD. On Tori's official website, it was revealed that the standard edition of the album will not be released in the US or Canada. Both the single disc and Deluxe edition will be available elsewhere.
Early reviews have been positive; PViktor.co.uk rated the album 4.5/5, calling it a "brilliant addition to the Tori canon, and a shining example of what a Christmas album should be" and "one of her most accomplished albums this decade." In other released reviews, wearsthetrousers.com rated the album 4/5, stating that the album has more "cohesion" than many of Amos' recent albums, and that the formula used could "win back some of her eroding fanbase" , whilst a more mixed review by theskinny.co.uk called the album "moderately successful", awarding it 3/5. In addition, Slant Magazine gave the album 3 out of 5 stars, citing "Winter's Carol" as the standout track: "The song's strong melody and arrangement are reminiscent of something from Under the Pink, bolstering a pagan yarn about the passing of the seasons." On the album as a whole, Slant says, "As a subversion of religious themes, Midwinter misses the mark entirely; as a traditional holiday album courtesy of one of Christianity's most astute pop cultural critics, it's an ironic, pleasantly competent oddity."
