Vesyolye Ulybki (Cyrillic: Веселые улыбки; Translated: Happy Smiles or Cheerful Smiles) / Happy Smiles is t.A.T.u's third studio album. The album's working title was Upravleniye Obtrosami, in English Waste Management, and was planned to be released in Summer 2008. However, the album was given a new title and cover art, and released on October 21, 2008 physically in Russia and digitally across the world.
On Wednesday 15th October, t.A.T.u. stated on their official site that 'Happy Smiles' Russian version would be released on 21st October. It will see a small release at first with only 2 'SOYUZ' stores in Leninskiy Prospect getting copies; other stores will receive copies in a 'few weeks time.' Limited amounts of posters will be available and for 2 hours only t.A.T.u. will be there to sign albums and take photographs. The discount coupons received with the 'Beliy Plaschik' maxi single will still be valid.
The album contains two instrumental songs, and the rest a mix of vocals in English and Russian. The fact that there were 2 releases of the album one entitled 'Vesyolye Ulybki' and the other 'Happy Smiles' has caused some confusion amongst fans as to whether or not they will see a full English release. However this was due only to the fact that 'Vesyolye Ulybki' is the first Russian t.A.T.u. album that can be digitally downloaded and management were worried that countries outside Russia do not use the Cyrillic alphabet. The fully English album will see a release in 2009 alongside the movie 'You and I.' It is unknown however if this version will keep the name 'Happy smiles' Another indicator of this is that known English versions of Songs such as Beliy Plaschik's counterpart 'White Robe' and Vremya Luni's counterpart 'Time on the Moon' were not included in this version of the album.
